Traditional wines from the Ancient Lilantio Valley of Evia Island, Greece

Our Farm:

Pyrgos6.jpg (34381 bytes) A front view of our 130 year old stone build chateau. The river that runs right next to it is the reason for the fertility of it's grounds and thus the heavy vegetation.
Part of the vineyard right after harvest time with the chateau in the background. The winemaking verities of Savatiano and Roditis have been cultivated here since ancient times. Pyrgos5.jpg (45590 bytes)
VinesRed.jpg (56097 bytes) Fraoula (strawberry) is the name of this type of vine. A very tasteful eatable type of grapes that become ripe in late September or early October.
A bed of Soultanina Grapes covering the porch of the guesthouse. One of the best spots to have breakfast during the first days of autumn! This type of grape is used to make the Greek Blond Raisins VinesWhiteA.jpg (54858 bytes)
AgParaskevi.jpg (48787 bytes) A couple of farm workers chopped in half a 450 year old icon of St. Paraskevi while digging a three meter deep ditch. At that time there was no question that a chapel had to be build on sight in her honor.
This is the type of carriage the locals used in order to transport their goods to the market place. It would take a whole day through creeks and dirt paths to reach Athens. A one hour highway drive with today’s cars! Karo.jpg (56838 bytes)
Olives.jpg (76377 bytes)

The olive tree is a plant that has deep roots in Greek culture and of course in our farms history.

The Chateau has survived two world wars and has served as a shelter for people struck by the big famine during and right after WWII. The doctors in our family used olive oil produced by our farm to provide special therapies and help victims get back on a regular diet and eventually on their feet again.

We still produce olive oil, along with other olive products such as soap from olive oil and different kinds of olives.

Oranges, Climentines and Mandarins give the farm a beautiful color during the cold and cloudy winter days. They also give us exceptional home made marmalade and jelly! Mandarin.jpg (63096 bytes)
Pyrgos3.jpg (49414 bytes) This palm tree was planted the day the Chateau's first stone was being laid, therefore by counting it's external rings you can tell the buildings age!
